Dr. Raed Shadfan
BiographyRaed Shadfan has a BSc. degree from Kent University and a Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University, both in the UK. He is the founder and managing director of Atlas Medical, a global medical company with branches in UK, Germany, Malaysia and Jordan, selling its products in more than 80 countries in 5 contents. Atlas Medical is also a recipient of EU Horizon 2020 research grant. He is also the founder and board director of TS Diagnostics and Atlas Biotech, specialized in manufacturing diagnostic devices in Malaysia with focus on South East Asia markets. He has extensive experience in managing diagnostic plants and implementing QA systems used in the medical device industry such as ISO9000, ISO13485, CE regulations and US FDA. Much of his early experience was (and still is) devoted to the medical IVD industry. This had gained him a good experience in business management, global marketing & sales, quality management systems, financial systems, human resource management in addition to technical knowledge and know-how in the medical IVD field. His current research interests include: immunoassays, quantification of lateral flow devices, nano-beads in IVD applications, enzyme-based biosensors and immuno-biosensors. He leads Atlas Medical’s team in GreenSense consortium, a Horizon 2020 project funded by the EU.
Future Personal Health Testing using Printed Electronics and IoTsThere is an emerging trend in the personal healthcare market to use home testing devices to monitor and manage one’s health conditions at his or her own convenience and privacy. Achieving this goal requires availing to the market smart testing devices that are easy to use, fast, cost effective, disposable, yet intelligent, and connected on-line for quick advice by expert systems and/or human medical professionals. Current systems using conventional testing platforms and electronic systems had only succeeded marginally due to their technologically primitive nature. Printed Electronics and the Internet of Things (IoT) are paving the way to introduce the next generation of intelligent and smart home testing devices to help people regardless of their location and technical background to play a more active role in their health and wellbeing.”
