Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy

Wael Al-Delaimy is Professor of Public Health and Global Health and Associate Director of the Institute for Public Health at the University of California San Diego. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed publications and trained and mentored medical, undergraduate and graduate students. His work is focused on big picture health problems such as noncomunicable diseases, mental health and health impacts of climate change. He is Director of the Global Mental Health Initiative at the University of California San Diego, Director of the Research Ethics Education Program for Jordan and the Middle East, and President of the Society for Advancement of Science and Technology in the Arab World. He also served as a referee for the Global Innovation Through Science and Technology Initiative for the last several years.
Making a difference in research and innovation in the Arab region
Although Jordan and the Arab region has a high per/capita education level, and Arab scientists in the US have above average contribution in research and innovation, the region lags behind the rest of the world. The talk will focus on what are the challenges and what are some of the success stories in the region and why the young generation can make a difference.
